Recorders!
Learning to play the recorder is fun here at Skyline! First, we learn or review the basic techniques and notes and practice them as a group with fun songs with a rockin' beat. Then, students self assess and put themselves at a level. They partner or team up with a group and start learning and practicing the songs in the packet at their level. It gets a little noisy, and it gets a lot fun!
When students play the recorder they learn about melody, harmony, rhythm, music reading, conducting, mentorship and ensemble play. Students who play a wind instrument or have experience playing the recorder become great mentors to other students!
All 4th & 5th Grade students need a Recorder by the first week of October. Students who do not have a recorder can borrow a school provided recorder in music class. Borrowed recorders are cleaned and disinfected after each use so that others may borrow the school recorders. School recorders will stay at school and cannot be taken home by students. Students who bring their own recorder will have exclusive use of their recorder. Students who bring their own recorder may keep the instrument in music class, or, if they choose, bring back and forth from home and school to practice.
Recorders can be purchased online or at music stores throughout town. The recorders with the most reliable pitch and play-ability are Peripole, Canto, Lauren or Yamaha. You don't need to spend more than $10 to find a good recorder.
